2016 Year In Review #4

August:
In which, apparently, the only event of note was Racheal and I attending a Ball hosted by some friends of ours:

The tallest and the smallest...
Well, maybe not quite literally, but it makes for a great picture! :D
Picture
September:
In which the highlight was our attendance of a WWII reenactment in Linden Tennessee (Remembering WWII), after spending a busy, busy time sewing in preparation (we attended as vendors as well as reenactors, so we made our outfits as well as vendor inventory of aprons and doll dresses).

Click on the pictures below and arrow through them for a larger view and captions:
October:
In which Mum, Grandma and I met up for lunch with my Aunt, we attended the wedding of a couple from church, and Racheal turned 25:
November:
In which: Grandma turned 93, and Scott and Savannah came up for Thanksgiving.
December:
I which we got a new (used) couch, chair and ottoman, and celebrated Christmas...

We do not usually celebrate Christmas on December 25th if that day lands on a Sunday, however, this past year, for Grandma's sake, we had a small celebration with her out in her apartment in the evening. Also for Grandma's sake (being her first Christmas without Grandpa it was a little hard on her), Mom stayed home with her, and the two of them went over to visit Grandma's cousin Helen in the nursing home, and spent the afternoon with her. On Monday we had our "big" Christmas, just the four of us.
And that folks, is my 2016, in brief review...I hope you have enjoyed!

A Sermon

I listened to this sermon by Dr. Joe Morecraft this afternoon, and it reminded me so much of my last post! Only...of course his sermon is much more thorough and broad than my little post. Have a lovely rest of the LORD's Day!

Curls...or 40's Fling

4/28/2014

Good evening ya'll.
Recently all of us have been on a kind of "1940's fling" due to an upcoming 1940's themed event which we may be attending...and I have been fascinated with learning how to do that awesome 1940's styled hair. You know, that voluminous soft looking hair...well, with some research I have discovered how it is done...even though I know I cannot wear it (my hair is far too long) but I would still like to learn how to do it...I might have the occasion to do it for someone else some day! So, as the base of this hair style must begin with curled hair, today I decided to try and curl Renee's hair.

First I tried the hot rollers:
Picture
Picture
One must excuse the sloppy looking way these rolls appear...this happens to be the first time EVER that I have"used" rollers!
Picture
Anyone envisioning big beautiful curls yet??
If so, you will be just as disappointed as I was 3 hours later...

This was the result:
Picture
Picture
As you can see, a real minimum to the curl there...

Since that did not work I decided it is probably because her hair is half synthetic. Due to past experience with my dollies with long hair, I have determined that you cannot easily curl synthetic hair with heat. Not curling irons or heat rollers apparently.

So I decided to try the old school method, that time consuming method that was used by many women during the 1940's and other generations.

Pin curls.

I dampened the sections of hair with vinegar (because vinegar helps to bring out the natural curl in hair, and Renee's hair is half real hair...and also her hair was beginning to feel kind of crunchy, the vinegar will help smooth that out too), before curling it, as I had in the past tried a few dry pin curls on Renee, and as I expected, they produced no curl at all.
So I am hoping that this will work. I suspect that it will, because I have tried pin curls on my doll Fidelia and they produced lovely curls...even thought they were short lived...they would have had to have been sprayed with some sort of fixative to have retained their curl I think.  Renee's hair may do the same thing...but we shall have to wait and see.

See? Weren't they pretty? Even though they didn't hardly last the whole afternoon...

Anyhow, I shall close.

See ya'll tomorrow.
Goodnight.

"But if God so clothes the grass, which is alive in the field today, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith! And do not seek what you are to eat and what you are to drink, nor be worried. For all the nations of the world seek after these things, and your Father knows that you need them. Instead, seek his kingdom, and these things will be added to you. Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom."
Luke 12:28-32

"The plans of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from the LORD."
Proverbs 16:1

Renee...(or, happy birthday to me!)

I guess that secondary title might sound a bit narcissistic...but I just wanted to tell you about what I bought myself for my birthday (which isn't quite yet, but my "present" arrived this morning).

If any body has been around me for any length of time, they have probably heard me say something along the lines of "I love playing with people's hair!" And well...there are just some hair styles that I cannot do on myself, but would like to learn how to put up so that I can do them for other people. And there are some styles that I might be able to do on myself if I already knew what I was doing, and had done it a time or two before trying to do it on the back of my own head...and that is why I got: a second hand cosmetology mannequin head. (Okay...that sounds kinda weird...)

But with no further adieu, I present Renee. (Who I named in honor of a friend of mine whose middle name is Renee.)

Isn't she pretty?

If you are interested, here is a picture of what I did with her hair...I just kind of made it up as I went along, but I like the way it looks!

And just in case you like the comfort of seeing heads which are not alone, here are a couple pictures of me! :)

Hi Ya'll!
Picture
I am still alive, in case you were wondering. :)
I have been staying busy with life...that is what I always say isn't it? Well, it is true. :)

I thought I might share a few recent pictures.
The above photo (I know I am wearing alarmingly purple eye shadow, but I still like the picture) was taken the other day when I was "going themed", or attempting to...80's you know...just for fun. I know, I'm wacky.

Need proof?
Picture
I must either be wacky or have at least some modicum of bravery to put pictures like that of myself on the internet...

Picture
Are you laughing at me?? Did I say you were allowed to do that!?
Picture
Well, I guess that's okay....laughter is good...very good.

Good medicine! Which I need a bit of myself tonight....

I hope that if you needed a smile or a laugh that I was able to help...you do know I like making people laugh right?
Picture
Hooray!

May God Bless you my friends...

Have a goodnight!

Merry Christmas!

Picture

May God bless you with a
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Merry Christmas from our family to yours!!

It doesn't really feel much like Christmas in our house today...
Since Daddy and G-daddy are still in the Other State  (Mom and Savannah having returned last week) we had decided earlier that we would "celebrate Christmas" on Epiphany, since by then, hopefully Daddy and G-daddy will be here. But we will be having lunch with G-ma and G-pa this afternoon...and we decided we will do the "12 days of Christmas"  with them...we will give them each something every day, for 12 days, starting today.

I sadly have a sore throat which I acquired yesterday...I don't really "feel bad" elsewhere, I just have a slightly sore throat...still I am trying to stay away from everybody, so that they don't catch anything I might have. I have been taking my tinctures and all, and I hope that it won't last long...

So even if we aren't feeling overly celebratory here today, I hope that you are, and that you are having a wonderful day!!

May God bless us, every one!

Katherine

Snow...mostly :)

Picture
My dear few and faithful readers, I hope that this evening finds you all well. We have recently had several inches of snow, and Racheal and I went out and took some pictures which I would like to share with you.

There is so much going on in our lives of late that it is just about too much to tell in this setting...so I'll say for now that life is in a state of abnormality...but who defines "normal" anyway? ;)

Now for those pictures...You must pardon the occasional dip of my hat into the photo...I was holding it over my camera to try and keep it as dry as possible in that blowing snow...

Picture
Racheal welcomes you to our chilly abode...

Then she sings to you about: "Snow, snow, snow, snow!!" (Think White Christmas...)
Picture
Picture
Or maybe she'll offer you a snow ball if you prefer....(No, she didn't really throw it at me!)
Picture
Poor Mr. Mingo! I know how you feel...I'm not a bird from here either...
Picture
My Abby, watching her crazy bipeds play in the snow...
Picture
A selfie...

A world of white...
Picture
"Brrr! I'm cold!!"
Picture
Picture
Snow in my hair...
Picture
Whoa! Watch the white wet water blow!! Oh! You call it SNOW? Hmmm, is that so? Good to know....
Picture
God created the stars in all of the galaxies in the vast universe...and He calls them all by name...He knows the number of the hairs on my head...and He knows the number of the snowflakes that cover the world with a thick white blanket...He knows each one's shape, and He knows where it lands...even those that land on my head...and melt into nothing when I return inside where it is warm...and He knew all that before He even spoke "Let there be light". Anybody need a bigger brain yet? :) I do!
Picture
Happiness...and thankfulness for being warm and dry inside...
Have a great week everyone!
