-God does not release His saints from His service in this life. No saint of God "retires" from working by God's grace unto God's glory, until his death. We always have work to do--however big or little, or seemingly grand or insignificant, or how constant or changing--we always have work set before us to do.
-"Reformation ends not in meditation, but in action."
-God's allotment is perfect. Whatever he has allotted to each one of us, is perfect. For it is His will for us, it is where he has stationed us, and right there we must serve.
And ultimately, He is our allotment, He is our portion.
"The LORD is my chosen portion and my cup; you hold my lot. The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance." (Psalm 16:5-6)
Because God is our portion, we should be able to genuinely and joyfully affirm this, whether we live in a mansion or a cardboard box, or anywhere in between. Whether our lives seem to be going well and full of peace and blessings, or whether our lives are full of heart-ache, trials and catastrophes, or anywhere in between.
"I bless the LORD who gives me counsel; in the night also my heart instructs me. I have set the LORD always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure*. For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let your holy one see corruption. You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore." (Psalm 16:7-11)
(*Note that that is not teaching a "prosperity gospel", for though often God does greatly bless His children with physical things, yet also we can have absolute security and peace of heart and mind in the midst of storms and trials, but trusting in God's Sovereignty over all. As General Stonewall Jackson said, "I am as safe on the battle field as I am in bed". And as Job affirms: "Though he slay me, I will hope in him." (Job 13:15a) And Paul: "...I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me." (Phil. 4:11b-13) )
-God gives us Himself. He is our inheritance and our lot. What more, or what greater gift could He give us than His very self? But not only does He give us Himself, but He also gives us gifts, wherewith to glorify Him. God gives us gifts to use as tools to advance His Kingdom, unto His glory. He does not give us talents that we might bury them, but He gives us talents that we may use them. But if we squander the gifts and talents that He has given us, we will lose them, and even what we did have, will be taken away.
-"You never know that Jesus is all you need, until Jesus is all you have."
-Contentment is a virtue and a grace; we must thank God, and be content. (I Tim. 6:6; Heb. 13:5)
-"Sometimes we must be stripped of everything, so that we may see that everything is not anything, without God."
-We must embrace God not only as our "portion" and our benefactor, but also as our Sovereign, Holy King.
